Workstream on early discharge and role of oral therapies commencing Autumn 2013

27 November

OPAT service models can contribute considerably to the timely and appropriate discharge of patients who require antimicrobial therapy for the management of serious infections.  In addition, oral therapies can play an important role in the management of serious infections in OPAT settings, both as part of an early discharge pathway that includes IV to oral switch and as agents used as part of admission avoidance strategies.

The UK OPAT Initiative has secured support that will see the establishment of a work stream that will provide evidence based advice on early discharge and admission avoidance and advise on the use of oral antimicrobial therapies.  Work will commence Autumn 2013.
